Getting there together

Berkeley High School Development Group
35th Annual Spring Fundraiser

We are honored to host award‑winning local journalists Sasha Khokha and Alexis Madrigal — proud parents and engaged community members — as they join us in our mission to support and strengthen the educational experience of all Berkeley High School (BHS) students.

Fact‑Based Media in a Truth‑Deficit Age: Empowering the Next Generation

A conversation with KQED’s Alexis Madrigal and Sasha Khokha exploring the urgent challenges of delivering trustworthy news in an era of institutional disinformation. Together, they will examine how families and young people can become discerning consumers of media — and empowered, authentic storytellers themselves — actively shaping public understanding and strengthening the foundation of an informed citizenry.

Community Support

Berkeley businesses are an important part of the BHS community for both staff and students. Since 2010 the Business Partners Luncheon has been an opportunity for local business people and friends of BHSDG to come together over lunch and raise funds for the Development Group. Each year features a guest speaker and superb food. Past speakers included Daveed Diggs, Michael Lewis, and Jennifer Doudna. In March 2022, the luncheon was re-imagined as an evening event to bring the community together after two-years on zoom. Best-selling author Peggy Orenstein and Health Educator Shafia Zaloom provided a thought-provoking conversation, Gather served delicious food, and members of the Berkeley High Jazz Band entertained the crowd.
